1. HOW TO SHOW YOUR WORK
- When you post an image on the forums, you should save it as a PNG.

- To post a sheet, it must be uploaded to an image host. the most commonly used one is http://www.imageshack.us

First press browse, then upload your sheet into the host. You will be given a few links; use the one that says "Direct link to image" do this

by just copying and pasting it, make sure the link works first!

*To show your image (click the Image button) Insert Image

- Does imageshack not work for you because school blocked it... Well here's one they haven't caught yet http://www.bonafideimg.com Eyebrows

2. CREDITS

Now you got your sheet, but there are rules to follow when spriting, just as in everything else. When making a sheet, one of the first rules, is CREDIT! This is not an option at MFZ, and is usually to be found in almost any area that's has to do with spriting. Without credit, you are stealing, and will get in trouble. How do you give credit, and correctly?
There isn't a short cut to credits. When giving credit, you must give it to everything, and everybody that you used things from, this includes if its a rip, edit, or custom.

Example:

---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   --

"SOMETHING" SHEET

credits: (made up names)

Dude in the Chair

     -  Credit for making original "something"

If the sprites were originally made by someone else then its good to say, and to put them first. This goes for projects, if the original design for the whole sheet was made by one guy, give him credit for it. If your making the sheet off someone else's, then make sure to email them first, or get a connection to them, so you can have permission to extend their sheet, whether its custom, or a rip.

     -   (http://something.com)

The link is put in because a name without a link is basically a blank, no real reason, as well since your on the net, and not famous you could be anyone with that name, or anywhere. The link allows people to know who you are, and where to find you, if not a site, email then.

San Norman

     -  credit for putting together "Something Sheet"

     -  following sprites: (rotation sprites, walk/ run animation)

When making a sheet, if someone added extra poses, say which they made, minor or not, there's other ways to do this as well though.

If the sheet is broken up into sections, with each person's name with there sprites in that section, you don't need to do this, ex: Sonic

     -  (http://something.com1)

Trusin

     -  following sprites: (fly, spin, spin dash)

     -  (edited sprites of San Norman)

However, sometimes sprites that were made by another, are reused to make more poses by another, if so, should be said, such as: front poses edited by San to make blast attack.

     -  (http://something.com2)

Snowman

     -  following sprites: (Other poses, snow board sprites)

Sometimes there just a bunch of random poses edited by others, and sometime cant be picked out really, or so few its useless to give a section, if this is so, just say other poses (if okay with the person who made them) if they made misc objects, credit for it (snow board)

     -  (http://something.com3)

Links: Put in at the end to advertise for everyone, or just give a gist of where the sheet came from, not needed really.

     -   (http://something.com)

     -  (http://something.com1)

     -  (http://something.com2)

     -  (http://something.com3)

Hosting: Where is the sheet going to be hosted, say you don't want it to be everywhere, then you give areas where its to only be.

     - This sheet may only be hosted at

: (something)

: (something)

Or you can do tags ex:

The tag must have the name of your site, the link on it, and its purpose, in this case (only to be hosted)

---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   --

3. DO NOT BE A IDIOT!
Then after words, should be done if you own an archive, or not, state where the sheet is to be hosted, if not one area, make sure you have your email on it! Mad
DO NOT PUT, only may be used upon with permission, if you don't have you email on it! Rolling Eyes How are they supposed to ask then, also its good to have for various reasons, one, what if the sheet gets stolen, how is someone else supposed to know where the original creator is then to tell them, sprite thieves usually do NOT take tags off the sheets they steal. But what if they do?
Lucky you!

4. MFZ ONLY?
If you give the sheet to a big sprite archive, the sheet will be known to be yours, if you don't want the sheet to go anywhere else to secure the safety of your work, Read the below, "How to contribute to the archive twice, and help our site "
People submit lots of sprites here, mostly Sonic stuff, they all put credits, but there is something there not doing, there not making it only for the MFZ archive only, some do. If you look at old sprite sheets, such as one for Psyguy, they say for Psy, or for Psy only. This meant the sheet could only be on his site, of course he gave them all away after he took the archive away, and that tags became mean less.

To the point. How to contribute to the archive twice, and help our site.
All you have to do is put this tag on the sheet.

If you only have paint, and are using a color BG, use the one below, just change the purple BG of it to what ever color you need it to be.

If you're saving in GIF format and need to save color, use this one:

or if you need a smaller version

thus stating its only for MFZ, doing this, it will keep others from taking the sheets and hosting them on there archive, and in the long run, gives the MFZ archive more stuff other sites don't, making the archive more valuable as well.
However this doesn't just help us, this helps you Cool
Some people worry about there sprites moving all around the internet and being stolen, the best way to avoid this, is this! It also allows other people to know where the sheet came from if it does get stolen, kind of like free advertising, then those people will report the sheet has been stolen to us, and we can have the site that took it, take it down, if they won't, well that's something MFZ never has had to deal with, and hopefully wont, but there are ways, cause I've seen other sites resort to it.

Also MFZ can support this easily, we now get to 3000 to 5000 hits a day b Cool d

So in a long topic short, Help MFZ, help yourself, free advertising, secured sheet. Wink

And if you decide to put the tag on, your sheet is safe, after words, you can put a joke or some little thing on the sheet.

5. ORGANIZATION
However there is more to sheets than just credit, a good sheet also needs to be organized. Sonic Take this sheet for example. Notice how the sheet is in rows, and no space is wasted, also there are other people who did work on the sheet, the person who did this sheet, divided the rows of each persons work. He put there name, and a button to there site if they have one.
Though the credit on this sheet is low, there isn't much to say though, he ripped the sheet, and Psy and Kajin added some poses. Sheets like this usually don't need big credits, very few actual customs.
However some people when they have empty space, say "OMG EMPTY SPACE! XD" THIS is unacceptable, and MFZ does not take a liking to the idea, it was funny the first time, but got old fast, whoever started it, if you have empty space, find a way to fill it, a joke a panel, more sprites, or if you really just cant, just say empty space, not big, just 12 font size, if not, don't even bother putting anything.

6. RANKING
Sheets need a certain amount of poses to be a good sheet, the lowest amount that is accepted at all, but not usually accepted is 10 sprites, the sheet needs the basic poses of, run, walk, jump, bend, one action or two, and some emotions, and some other views of the pose, front for example. There are rankings for sheets that are given at MFZ however.
You can not put Ultimate something sheets on a sheet of 20 poses, this is not allowed here, besides I started the idea.

Categories:
---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   --
Standard Sheet:
(10 - 49 poses)

Big Sheet:
(50 - 99 poses)

Super Sheet: (ex: "Sonic" Super sheet)
(100 - 199)

Ultra Sheet:
(200 - 299)

Master Sheet:
(300 - 499)

Ultimate Sheet:
(500 - 999)

Divine Sheet:
(1000 - above)

However! Do not do this just for fun, there are other rules to this system, you cannot just put a bunch of sheets together and say you got an Ultimate sheet. This rankings are only to be used on sheets that consist of one character, if more than one, don't count its poses, and its not based by emotions, its based on poses, running, walking, stuff like that, also not only one type of sprite, but a consistent style, you CANT have the same poses twice in a row, but have one in a custom either. Its one style, one sprite type, one character, and based not on emotions, but poses. 20 emotions at most.

7. FILE SIZE
Also, if you're submitting a sheet to MFZ, make sure its size is no bigger than 400KB; this takes away from our space and bandwidth. If bigger, the sheet will be made downloadable by ZIP instead.

8. BUTTONS
When updating for MFZ, I have to make buttons for every single sprite, making them can take a long time, about half an hour for every single sprite, and its becoming longer, due to the fact, lets say we get allot of submission's currently we have more than 20 (10/30/05) and usually end up with 40 to 50 by the time of the next update. After making the buttons for them, I have to link them and arrange them on the archive, this can take up to 1 to 2 hours some times, longer if the programs screw up.

To make updates faster, I'm asking that everyone from now on makes, when they submit their sheets, a separate button sprite to go along with it, the button however, has to be a primary sprite from the sheet.
Example:
notice there is no space around the sheet, and its transparent, its okay however for the sprite to have a black box as well, but we prefer transparent.
Example:
However its good to look at the archive, sometimes there's a theme going on. If the sprite, such as the Super Sonics, all are in the same pose, its good to pick the same pose as the others. The Best pose for just about all sprites, and the primary one is their standing pose. But as I said before, check the archive to make sure the pose you pick, will fit with the rest.

If I don't agree with the pose, I will change it, but I want to do this the least amount I can. The largest a button can be in 100x100, so zooming in or out.
Example:
It can be a little bigger or smaller, but 100x100 is the most preferred, for more examples check the archive.

Backgrounds take the longest, cause I try to make them perfect looking, when doing buttons for those, 100x100 is required, and don't choose to much stuff, 2 to 3 things are usually the nicest looking

Try to match the backgrounds up where you think Ill I’m most likely to put them, I do rearrange them when updating, so try to make the buttons match up with the one its most likely to be put next to. For more example, look at the archive.
Advance backgrounds and 8-bit are to be 80x80

Pixel art, there are done differently, if a art piece, choose the area on it that looks the best to you or most nicely done, and put it in a 100x100 box, if a selected of sprite art, if multiple, choose the best three, and put them together. If all different on the sheet, choose the one that looks the best to you.
example:

Please consider doing this to help MFZ and me. This will cut my time in half when updating, and that's allot of time.

Keep in mind, I might not use your button, Ill only use it if you have a nice one, and follows the above.

9. SUBMITTING
When submitting a sheet, if your not confidant of your sheet being accepted, this meaning we accept it to be on the site, then bring it to "Spriting Discussion". Hear people will tell you what they think of it, EXPECT criticism, they will also give suggestions and ideas for the sheet. Once it has a rating of 8/10 from others, its ready to be tested by me, and if I'm not sure, then I make a vote option on it, if more yes than no, accepted, my vote counts depending on how much I like the sheet myself. Though sometimes the vote thing is just to get an idea of what others think, and even with 20 yes to 2 no, criticism over rules. So don't expect votes to win your sheet.
When submitting a sheet, MAKE SURE! That you have followed all of the above ^^^
If you have, then try the sheet.
Put the title of the sheet on the topic, and the sheets link in the topic.
